Sometimes you need a blank slate, a fresh start, a Palette Cleanser*.
This oversized cropped sweater is such a project for me: a way to clear my mind, restart my creative process, hopefully with less self-doubt and second-guessing, with more knitting and less tinking.
Knit sideways from the center out, this seamless modular sweater is knit in reverse stockinette with stockinette details, ribbed cuffs, a broken-rib border, and an i-cord neckline. The worsted weight yarn in three lively heathered shades of gray Rauwerk wool creates a rustic, yet velvety soft texture and knits up in no time.
The neutral colors and the fun shape make this a wardrobe staple, but feel free to go wild with colors, or use just one color.
* The pattern name Palette Cleanser is a wordplay on “palate cleanser” (food designed to remove any lingering flavors from the mouth so that the next course may be enjoyed with a fresh perspective) and a “color palette” used by an artist to mix colors.
